Characteristics
caravel were high boards, deep curving of a deck in an average part of a vessel,
and presence of superstructures in fore of a part and forage. Large caravels
(“caravel Redondo”, Spain “Redondo” - direct sail) only on a fore-mast was
carried with direct sails, on other masts the Latin sails were established,
that allowed these courts to go abruptly to a wind. Length large caravel made
about 35 ì, width up to 12 ì, and displacement up to 600 ò. On a deck were
established up to 22 guns.
